What is CFL?

Crusade for Life, Inc. (CFL) is a non-denominational, evangelical organization concerned with fostering and protecting human life from conception. CFL was founded in 1971 by a group of Christians having a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. Accepting the Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, as the final authority in faith and life, CFL is pledged to the following Biblical truths:

God is interested in the unborn
and the Bible speaks of the unborn
in personal terms.

Psalm 139:14,15 NIV "You (God) created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

The unborn therefore come
under the protection
of the Sixth Commandment.

Exodus 20:13 NIV "You shall not murder."

The Bible's "life for life"
punishment protects unborn life
just as it does life after birth.

Exodus 21:22-23 NIV "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant women and she gives birth prematurely ... the offender must be fined ... But if there is serious injury you are to take life for life."

The entity in the womb is human
Luke 1:41 NIV "When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb."

God notices and judges when
human life is unjustly taken.

Genesis 4:10 NIV "The Lord said, 'What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse...'"

We are responsible
for protecting human life,
including the unborn.

Proverbs 24:11-12 NIV "Deliver those  being led away to death ... If you say "But we knew nothing about this," does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it?" Will He not repay each person according to what he has done?

What Does CFL Believe?

Crusade for Life believes that all human life is created in the image of God and is subject only to His law. CFL further believes that the Constitution of the United States and the foundational principles of our nation guarantee the inalienable right to life of all human beings at any age. Crusade for Life therefore believes that the taking of prenatal life up to some arbitrary age limit, or the elimination of other classes of persons, such as those who have a disability or who are incompetent, is directly contrary to God's law and to these principles.

Why Was CFL Organized?

Abortion is one of the major problems facing the Christian conscience today. The secular world is in transition between the distinctly inconvenient ethic of the "sanctity of life," and the very convenient pseudo-ethic of the "quality of life." Permissive abortion is in effect in most of the world, especially Europe, North America, Japan, China, and Russia. Abortion is now the major cause of death throughout the world.

Does CFL Agree with Science?

That a new human life begins at conception is a simple biological fact. Conception is the moment when the sperm from the father's body and the ovum from the mother's body fuse to produce a new living cell - which is a new individual life.

The new living cell contains 46 chromosomes, as is typical in cells of a human body. Twenty-three were contributed by the sperm, and 23 by the ovum. The new living cell immediately goes into an explosive developmental continuum which will carry the individual through embryo, fetus, infant, youth, adult, to old age, if death does not occur sooner.

Consider the facts: the human baby has a heartbeat as early as 18 days, detectable brain waves at 6 weeks, and all muscular and organ systems at 12 weeks. He is intensely sensitive to sound, pressure, heat, light, and pain throughout the prenatal period. From conception, all the new biological individual requires for development is food and oxygen.

What Are CFL's Goals?

Crusade for Life operates as a non-profit corporation with educational and informational objectives. These are CFL's goals and activities:

  • Preparing informational and educational materials to explain the Christian point of view on life and its protection. Pertinent videos, booklets, Bible study packets, pamphlets and newsletters including the "Crusade for Life REPORT," which contains current news stories affecting pro-life, are available.

  • Supporting a local speakers' bureau which gives audio-visual presentations to church, school and other groups.

  • Developing broad public education through billboards, bus bench ads, and cable television programs.

  • Establishing Crusade for Life chapters to work with local churches.

  • Identifying pro-life contact persons in local churches who can work with their pastors on informing their congregations on local events: Life Chains, Walk for Life, registration, letter writing on legislation, literature distribution and special speakers. CFL has materials available for a church or organization display table.

  • Offering support and participation in sidewalk counseling, prayer vigils, and other pro-life activities.

  • Networking with other pro-life groups, including those offering support for local crisis pregnancy centers and homes for unwed mothers.
